Newborn Session Tips

When booking your newborn session, we will discuss your due date and make plans to book your newborn session within 2 weeks of birth (although the best time is the first 4-7 days). The earlier, the better - so we can get those cutely posed shots. When babies are born their bones are more like cartilage, but after 2 weeks they start to harden making it dangerous to try and do the cute curled up baby photos.

Please read the TIPS section for best preparation and results for your session.

TIPS

Sleepy Baby

Because we want the baby sleepy for the session, I recommend that you try to keep your baby awake for a while before the session. Trust me, it will be worth it!

Milk Drunk

"Milk Drunk" babies are the best! Please feed and burp your baby right before the session to ensure your baby is happy and sleepy. You may need to nurse (or feed) your baby during our session if they start to get fussy.

Keep it Hot Hot Hot!

Babies love heat. Newborns are use to being in 98.6 degree temp of your womb. We want them to be comfortable to get those cute shots and the heat helps them sleep better. Us adults will be hot, so dress in layers and bring water!

Keep Calm

Stay relaxed! The reality is, your baby may get fussy, but we will get great shots; sometimes it just takes time to calm down your little bundle of joy. Ultimately, your baby calls the shots! They may need to eat, get a new diaper and just cuddle with mom or dad during the session. Babies know when their parents are stressed, so keeping the environment relaxed and mellow helps to keep the baby calm.

Shit Happens!

Shit Happens! Literally! It may get all over blankets, props and even us! It is ok. We clean up and move on. There is no need to feel embarrassed.

Whish To Have An In-Home Session?

• Don't be worried if your house is a mess; I understand that you JUST had a baby! You probably have dishes in the sink, baby items all over the living room and dirty clothes piled up. I will work around everything. I love taking family photos on mom and dad's bed, so make the bed. I also like shooting in the nursery, especially if it is beautifully decorated.

• Natural light is the most flattering. Before I arrive, please have all your curtains and blinds open. Once I arrive we will do a quick walk through of your home looking for the best natural light for us to set up a mini studio. Sometimes the best location is in the kitchen or by a deck door; usually wherever there is a large window.
